Abstract
This study was conducted to verify significant factors influencing school adaptation and to examine whether grit mediates the relationship between parental parenting attitudes of adolescents and their school adaptation(friendship and teacher relationships). Using the 2020 Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, we analyzed a total of 1,534 participants consisting of 3rd-grade middle school students. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 24.0. We conducted t-test, ANOVA, and correlation analyses to assess differences between variables. A structural equation model construction and verification were carried out. The findings revealed significant differences in friendship and teacher relationships based on parental parenting attitudes. Grit was identified as a significant mediator between parental parenting attitudes and both friendship and teacher relationships. Positive parental parenting attitudes such as warmth, autonomy, and consistency were found to enhance adolescents' grit, ultimately aiding their school adaptation. Based on these results, it is suggested that social welfare policy strategies should be developed to enhance adolescents' grit, and proactive family intervention programs need to be implemented to foster adolescents' school adaptation.
